Exciting News: Online Tibetan Language Classes Are Starting Soon
We’re happy to share that Lha Tibetan Heritage Society, a newly registered federal non-profit and charity, will launch online Tibetan language classes on July 8, 2026. Our mission is to support education, social services, and preserve and promote Tibetan language, Buddhist philosophy, and cultural heritage.
Our classes are fully online, making it easy for students from anywhere in Canada and North America to join, as long as the schedule works for you. We’re especially excited to start this program during His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 91st birthday and as we celebrate July as ‘Tibetan Heritage Month’ in our province.
Who can join: These classes are open to students in Grade 8 and above. Keeping the Tibetan language and Buddhist cultural heritage alive is something we all share, as it’s at the heart of Tibetan identity. To seize this opportunity and embrace our shared responsibility, we encourage our youth — the future of Tibet — to join us in learning, using, and passing on our language and cultural heritage.
Our founders include former directors and current board members of the Lha Charitable Trust in Dharamshala. With more than 20 years of experience in non-profit work and community projects, they are dedicated to education, social services, and especially in preserving and promoting the Tibetan language and cultural heritage.
About the instructor: Dr. Gen Dechen Dorjee will teach the classes. He has a Ph.D. in Linguistics, taught at the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Varanasi, and served as Principal of the Gangjong Tibetan Language and Culture School. Dr. Dorjee brings deep knowledge of Tibetan language, culture, and Buddhist philosophy, along with decades of teaching experience.
